News Stories: Ethics and HR, A Total Makeover

Image
News stories drew our attention more closely to the question of ethics, lately. In Science, there was the story of "building babies", coming true . Although it is not quite a new issue - the UK had introduced a law on the subject  a year ago, according to BBC - , its' coming to realization drew a renewed wave of huge uproar and controversies. The other story is the one of Wells Fargo allegedly allowing or enabling the creation of unauthorized accounts. Again, huge reactions .  Two different worlds, yet a similar issue: Ethics. In the case of Wells Fargo, a question was raised among the HR community: "Where was HR"?      ©Al_HRComatrix_HREthics Wells Fargo happens to be one case. It draws quite a bit of attention for the moment. But, let's be realistic: it is just one case among many others, big and small. Pushing for performance, sanctioning results can sometimes be a recipe for disaster. Of course every company wants to encourage stron...

The big question these days is how the evolvement of digital is going to affect the managing of people and HR. This is intricate, from such as the simplest individual text to interactive programs allowing one whole unit, setting or organization, if not several units across the globe to be on the know at the same time.  Breaking barriers of time and space, freeing people, speeding up decisions and solutions and alternatively, bringing new challenges. Such could not have been imagined possible a few years ago. Today, the question is not if we are going to go digital. Rather, the question would be: How are you carrying-out the shift to digital and how employees embrace it....

An Update on Toxic Leadership: When Team Members Volunteer to Fight Toxicity

When Employees Volunteer to Fight Toxicity © PatAhern_ AdVision T he subject of toxic leadership is endless. I owe this update to Pat Ahern of AdVision  who brought up the issue of team, leadership and toxicity. Thanks, Pat f or reminding me of the importance of this subject. Incidentally, concurrent circumstances made me rethink the leade rship role in team growth. So, yes, toxic leadership can generate quite a toxic environment and harm team spirit in one way or another. As managers become enablers of resistance to change for fear of losing long-time employees, they have a tendency to become irrelevant themselves. Relevancy is not measured by tenure. It is about adaptability, agility, understanding of changed and evolving principles, practices and needs. As a side note, could irrelevancy also be linked to subordination? The terms that define subordination status could certainly impact leadership relevancy . In a way, one can be only as good as he/she is allo...
